<p>Other times, you just feel lazy and you don’t want to cook. Either way, fast food seems like a good option.</p>
<p>Thing is, eating out too much can really help you screw the pooch when it comes to your diet … there are healthy alternatives mixed in among all the fattening choices. Your best bet is to learn some common sense guidelines about what makes each item unhealthy and choose one of the healthy items.</p>
<p>It’ll also help if you study the menus of some of your favorite fast food restaurants. You’ll most likely be able to look up their nutrition facts online. Do that and you’ll know for sure how many calories are in your favorite fast food meals.</p>
<p>Now here’s your quick guide to eating healthy and keeping the pounds off while eating fast food …</p>
<p>Some Quick Guidelines:</p>
<p>1. Grilled Meats. Grilled meats are a much healthier way of cooking rather than deep fried, breaded meats. If the fast food place you’re visiting has the option of choosing crispy or fried chicken versus a grilled patty, choose the grilled one. If the place is like KFC, and the grilled meat isn’t really grilled, then just eat the deep fried, breaded meats and avoid the side carbs (biscuits, etc).<br />
2. Skip the Fries. (Almost) Always. This one was SO HARD for me to get over because I love the way fries taste. I imagine kicking the heroin habit is easier than this. But I’ve probably had about a handful of fries in the last 1.5-2 years so I’m doing good! Nothing but starchy carbs and trans fats here.<br />
3. Healthier Sides. Some fast food places will offer alternatives to a side of fries. You may be able to opt for some healthy fruit or salad instead. Or you could do the healthiest side option–don’t get any!<br />
4. Don’t Super Size. Less calories = less fat. And they only supersize the fries and the soda! WTF? I want a super sized cheeseburger man!<br />
5. Diet Soda. I used to laugh at the fat guy who orders the big greasy meal and then orders a diet soda, as if it’ll make a difference. Well it does make a difference, but, not if your packing fries into your mouth too! Big sandwich, skip the fries or chips, and a diet soda can go a long way towards filling you up and helping you not eat as much … Water or unsweetened tea is a good choice too …</p>
<p>Examples Of Healthy Meals At Popular Fast Food Joints</p>
<p>Here’s a list of some healthy choices you can make at some of the most popular fast food restaurants:</p>
<p>1. Taco Bell. Taco Bell has come out with a “Fresco Style” menu that allows you to choose popular menu items in a lower calorie style. A menu item ordered fresco style will come back with a special healthier salsa and it’ll also lack cheese. (I personally don’t take this option since the only time I eat Taco Bell is when I’m drunk anyways, but it’s worth noting)<br />
2. McDonalds. They now offer an extended list of “premium salads”. However, it’s still easy to get fooled into thinking something is healthy when it really isn’t. Make sure you use a low fat dressing on your salad (half a pack if you can) and opt for the grilled chicken. If you grab the ranch and crispy chicken, you may as well be ordering a Big Mac! A burger or two with no sides and a diet coke/unsweet tea will fill you up with less calories too.<br />
3. Subway. As healthy as they claim to be, there’s still a crap-load of empty bread carbs here. Try a salad, throw some protein in there with some chicken, avoid the chips, you should be good to go.<br />
4. Wendy’s. My all-time favorite fast food joint. If you order a value meal you can definitely opt out of the fries. You can substitute for a baked potato, mandarin oranges, and more. If you’re fasting, the Triple Baconator is the ultimate one burger per day — 1300 calories of fat and protein goodness. That’ll be it sir!<br />
5. Burger King. Like the rest of the popular fast food chains, Burger King has followed suit and made changes. You can opt for healthier alternatives like salads, chicken, etc. You can also do the one big burger thing with their whoppers if you’re fasting.<br />
6. K.F.C. Has actually got a GREAT menu item — the Double-down sandwich. Low carbs. High protein and only 500 calories. Fills you up and keeps the calories down. I bet you could lose 20lbs on an all Double-Down Diet.<br />
7. Chipotle. Not really fast food, but an AMAZING restaurant and probably the best choice for eating healthy. Some whiny punks complain about oversized portions but if you order the right stuff, it’s good portion sizes of good food. Skip the extra 1500 cals of empty carbs that comes with the tortillas, get a bowl instead, fill it with meats, salsa, fajita peppers, mounds of guacamole and lettuce and you’re kickin’ serious Bootay. <p>For all other restaurants, you can make an educated decision about the healthy items from the menu. If you’re unsure, use some common sense guidelines:</p>
<p>* Avoid empty carbs (fries, tortillas, chips, biscuits, etc)<br />
* Layoff the transfats (deep fried foods, fries, etc)<br />
* Avoid the sugar (no sodas, no sweet tea, no ice creams, etc)<br />

Pretty straightforward.</p>

<p>1 &#8211; Bananas <br />This is one of my all time favorites &#8211; and I eat one every day. Bananas are a great source of magnesium (good for your bones and heart health) &#8211; and they are loaded with potassium (about 400 milligrams in a medium one). This is good since we are supposed to get close to 5,000 milligrams of potassium per day. Remember, potassium helps regulate blood pressure, fights bone loss and reduces your risk of kidney stones.</p>
<p>2 &#8211; Brown Rice <br />The difference between white rice and brown rice is not the color. White rice is brown rice AFTER it has been processed and devalued. Unlike white rice, brown rice is a true whole grain &#8211; because it still has the bran and germ of the natural grain. So you get the true &#8216;whole grain&#8217; benefits &#8211; and about 10 times as much body-benefiting potassium and phosphorus.</p>
<p>3 &#8211; Bran <br />Either as cold cereal or hot cereal &#8211; bran kicks butt (I love oat bran cooked in water for breakfast [around 11:30am] with a medium banana, and 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed).</p>
<p>What do you get? A very nice dose of fiber, magnesium &#8211; and some VERY good quality carbohydrates.</p>

We all know the benefits of true whole grains &#8211; so no need for me to rehash here. You can also try bulgar or buckwheat groats (kasha) &#8211; as they are also nutrient packed whole grains.</p>

<p>This viewpoint continues to gain support, even though the desperate market for cellulite fighting products an services is expected to grow to over 200 million dollars a year by 2012.</p>
<p>In most of their summary references &#8211; these experts do allude to the fact that the only way to reduce or prevent the appearance of cellulite is through a properly structured and targeted exercise routine.</p>
<p>Even though the FDA has technically approved several dozen types of anti-cellulite gadgets, it only judges them on whether they provide short-term changes in appearance. Approvals are not based on actual, structural, long lasting reductions in cellulite.</p>
<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t have any third party research data or official proof about how long the reduction effect lasts,&#8221; claims an FDA spokes-person referenced in the well known, Wall Street Journal in a feature article: &#8220;The Latest Cellulite Treatments Sound Too Smooth to Be True.&#8221; After reading this article &#8211; it&#8217;s hard to believe how many women still buy into these devices and gimmicks.</p>
<p>CST (Cosmetic Surgery Today) details the primary paradox in this industry of desperation, empty promises and big money:</p>
<p>Most of the anti-cellulite treatment plans require the woman to commit a series of cellulite reduction treatments in order to see any substantial changes. For example a series of about ten visits is the typical, &#8216;initial&#8217; treatment plan, and women are &#8216;advised&#8217; to maintain a sensible diet and healthy lifestyle throughout the cellulite treatment process.</p>
<p>Skeptics and critics of these beauty-spa/cosmetic procedures highlight that most treatments, at best, may only offer short term improvements, and that most are simply &#8216;jazzed-up&#8217; massage sessions that only reduce the ripples &amp; dimples, and the appearance of cellulite on a temporary basis &#8211; with no lasting improvements.</p>
<p>They also mention that those women who may have experienced improvements could have done so with properly targeted exercise alone.</p>
<p>But despite all the evidence of doubt, supporters (mainly the companies that sell them) of cellulite treatments state that these non-invasive cellulite treatment procedures are a viable way to drop a few inches, tighten loose skin and see changes within 3 &#8211; 4 months.</p>
<p>&#8220;None of these things has been shown in any definitive, objective way to offer improvement for cellulite areas,&#8221; states Bob Weiss of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. &#8220;If there was proof &#8211; women would be going crazy &#8211; and the undeniable proof would be all over the news and talk shows. There would be no debate.&#8221;</p>
<p>Cellulite device manufacturers stand behind their treatments&#8217; effectiveness, however many women have been deeply disappointed. In reader surveys about a few anti-cellulite devices, just a small fraction of women said &#8220;Yes&#8221; to the straight question &#8220;Was the money you spent worth it?&#8221;&#8230;</p>
<p>- Vela-Shape, 10%</p>
<p>- Thermage, 34% (Thermage is a supposed skin &#8216;tightening&#8217; device, but the company has recently included an anti-cellulite attachment &#8211; like on a vacuum cleaner.)</p>
<p>Other cellulite treatment machine were not officially rated: Smooth-Shapes from Elem&eacute; Medical Co., Velasmooth, the most recent edition of the &#8216;VelaShape&#8217; from Syneron, The &#8216;Dermosonic&#8217; by Sybaritic, and &#8216;Endermologie&#8217; from L.P.G. Systems out of France.</p>
<p>Dermatologist Ava Chambon M.D. of Santa Monica, is very skeptical about what supposed cellulite removal treatments can offer. She states the claims of  &#8220;This device will get rid of cellulite&#8230;&#8221; is one of the world&#8217;s top lies (costing women millions and millions every year), very close behind &#8220;I&#8217;ll call you in the morning, I promise.&#8221;</p>
<p>A more objective viewpoint is offered by Christopher Zachary M.D., chairman of the Dept. of Dermatology at U.C.I. He claims the dimply fat that frustrates so many women is just a secondary sex characteristic like breasts and wide hips that can only be improved with exercises that enhance the structure of the underlying muscles, beneath the skin that shows the cellulite bumps.</p>

<p>She looks great in her &#8216;sexy jeans&#8217;&#8230; She looks amazing in a form fitted skirt&#8230; and she actually looks like a &#8216;hottie&#8217; in her workout gear&#8230; But when she&#8217;s naked &#8211; she can&#8217;t stand to look at her trouble spots in the mirror because of her cellulite&#8230;</p>
<p>A bikini is out of the question&#8230; the short little dress won&#8217;t see the light of day&#8230; and her man is only allowed to &#8220;see her&#8221; with the lights off&#8230;</p>
<p>She doesn&#8217;t know why she has it. She&#8217;s heard so many different &#8216;theories&#8217;. <p>Here is how to make your own Fat Loss Quesadilla:</p>
<p>1) Start with a wrap that is made from whole grain &#8211; not just &#8216;with&#8217; whole grain. In the future I will profile various brands and flavors &#8211; addressing the types of grains, fiber, etc. &#8211; One brand I like is the Wrap-itz from &#8216;Tam-X-icos!&#8217; &#8211; but there are many others.</p>
<p>Pull out 2 tortillas.</p>
<p>2) Scramble an extra large egg using non-stick spray, such as Pam Organic Olive Oil Spray.</p>
<p>3) Keep in mind, this is a 2 serving quesadilla, so you can share it with someone or save the 2nd serving for tomorrow&#8217;s lunch. Using a pan that will allow the tortilla to lay flat in, warm the pan on very low heat.</p>
<p>4) Add a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil to the pan and a tablespoon of butter (or Olivio). Then place one tortilla in the pan. Add 2 rounded tablespoons of cheddar cheese and spread evenly on tortilla.</p>
<p>5) Add the following:</p>
<p>- quarter cup of canned green beans.</p>
<p>- 2 rounded tablespoons of canned corn.</p>
<p>- 2 rounded tablespoons of canned sweet peas.</p>
<p>- Spread the scrambled egg over veggies.</p>
<p>- Add sea salt, black pepper, onion powder &amp; garlic powder to taste.</p>
<p>- Sprinkle with another tablespoon of cheddar cheese.</p>
<p>6) Place the 2nd tortilla on top &amp; gently press with spatula so cheese sticks to it. Check bottom with spatula to see if it is starting to brown. Lift up top tortilla &#8211; if cheese is sticking &#8211; its time to turn it over. Using your spatula, scoop under &amp; lift out of pan pace your other hand on top, flip over &amp; place in pan.</p>
<p>Cook for about 4 &#8211; 5 minutes &#8211; the bottom should look like the top &#8211; a dark/golden brown.</p>
<p>Cut in half &amp; eat. Remember, this is 2 servings. And here is the nutrient breakdown for one serving:</p>
<p>Calories: 350</p>
<p>Fat: 22 grams</p>
<p>Protein: 13 grams</p>
<p>Carbohydrates: 25 grams</p>
<p>Sodium: 380 mg</p>
<p>Fiber: 6 grams</p>

<p>There are many reasons why this problem goes unrecognized in may people who suffer from this unwanted side effect. Quite often the listing of weight gain as a side effect is not clearly noted in the printed materials and label that accompany a specific drug. Doctors may not be aware of weight gain as a side effect of a specific drug when writing a prescription for it. Also, if a drug is new to the market it may not even be known that weight gain is a side effect in certain patients until actual usage reports start coming back to the pharmaceutical company who produces that drug.</p>
<p>There are also interaction side effects between certain drugs that may lead to weight gain &#8211; where the drugs by themselves don&#8217;t cause weight gain but together they do.</p>
<p>Now, we must understand that each person has a unique biochemical profile, generally speaking, and because of this &#8211; not everyone reacts the same to certain elements that are put into the body. However, there are certain groups of drugs that are known to cause weight gain in a certain percentage of patients who are taking one or more of those drugs.</p>
<p>Certain prescription drugs used to treat mood disorders, seizures, migraines, diabetes, and even high blood pressure can cause weight gain &#8211; sometimes 10 pounds a month. Some steroids, hormone replacement therapy, and oral contraceptives can also cause unwanted pounds to creep up on you.</p>
<p>Steroids such as prednisone, older antidepressants such as Elavil and Tofranil, and second-generation antipsychotics like Zyprexa are the biggest &#8212; and most recognized &#8212; promoters of weight gain. Some other common offenders include the antidepressants Paxil and Zoloft, the antiseizure medication Depakote, diabetes drugs like Diabeta and Diabinese, and the high blood pressure drugs Cardura and Inderal. Heartburn drugs like Nexium and Prevacid may also cause drug-induced weight gain.</p>
<p>An important note here is that it is not always the drug itself that is causing the weight gain. For example, when antidepressants bring a person to a state of less depression and their moods and attitudes improve &#8211; many times so does appetite, and hence there is an increase in daily caloric intake. It is a good question because it gives people some insight as to what diet habits one should follow to feel and look their best.</p>
<p>Well, my answer for one of my favorite all around fat burning lunches is:</p>
<p>- 1/2 can chick peas (garbanzos) crushed up a bit <br />- 3/4 chopped baby carrots <br />- 1 tablespoon of raisins <br />- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar <br />- 1 tablespoon olive oil <br />- sea salt &amp; pepper to taste</p>
<p>I always prefer to choose organic foods when possible&#8230;</p>
<p>How does this easy weight loss recipe burn fat?</p>
<p>- it is under 400 calories (a huge difference compared to a lot of other garbage people eat for lunch) <br />- it has good amounts of protein, fiber and healthy high nutrient value carbohydrates (the good ones) <br />- since this meal is highly unprocessed, the body has to work at breaking down the foods, a great thing for boosting metabolism.</p>
<p>You can even add some garlic powder and/or onion powder to give this simple diet recipe a nice spicy kick. You can actually add almost any spice or herb without adding calories &#8211; which only helps to enhance the fat loss value of the recipe. This happens by making you feel satisfied since you ate something quite flavorful and appetizing &#8211; unlike many other bland or sodium loaded, packaged diet foods.</p>
<p>Feel free to create your own variation of this tasty fat loss combo &#8211; buy using a different type of bean or a different vegetable. You really can&#8217;t mess it up too bad. The only thing you have to lose is unwanted body fat.</p>
